Men’s Water Polo Wins South Coast Conference Championship for Third-Consecutive Year

The No. 1 Long Beach City College men's water polo team was named the 2019 South Coast Conference Champions after their 14-9 victory over Mt. San Antonio College in the South Coast Conference Tournament this weekend at Cerritos College. This is the Vikings' third-consecutive conference championship.

Th Vikings had a rough start to the game as they only scored one goal to trail behind the Mounties 3-1 in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Vikings picked up their offensive momentum by outscoring Mt.SAC to lead 7-4.

In the second half, the Mounties climbed back up to tie the game 8-8, but then the Vikings rallied and finished the game with six more points to win the championship crown 14-9.

Freshman attacker Jose Loubriel led the Vikings with six goals against Mt.SAC and had two assists. Freshman center Jose Barajas also led the team with four goals from the set position.

Freshman goalkeeper Matteo Marcato held his own in the cage with 11 saves for the Vikings.

The No. 1 men's water polo team will be back in action next weekend in the SoCal Regional Playoffs at Riverside City College.
