Water Polo’s Loubriel Earns 2019 Southern California MVP

It was recently announced by the South Coast Conference (SCC) that seven Long Beach City College men's water polo players were honored with All-SCC selections after a perfect 7-0 conference season. Leading off the awards was freshman attacker Jose Loubriel who was named the 2019 SCC Most Valuable Player of the Year, 2019 Southern California Most Valuable Player and earned All-American status. Freshman goalkeeper Cole Raulston, sophomore attacker Vedran Latkovic, freshman center Jose Barajas and sophomore attacker Fabio Mujica were all named to the First-Team All-Conference list, while sophomore attacker Aleksa Vucurovic, and freshman attacker Nikola Ilic earned spots on the Second-Team list.

Loubriel took home Most Valuable Player accolades in the conference and in Southern California for scoring 63 goals throughout the season. Loubriel also tallied 24 assists and had 39 steals and 14 shot blocks. Raulston took home First-Team recognition, as he was the final line of defense for the Vikings as a wall in the cage and led the team with 211 saves in 27 total games.

Latkovic earned First-Team honors for his aggressive offensive player for the Vikings. Latkovic put himself on the conference leaderboard with 89 goals out of 152 shots. Barajas also earned First-Team selections with his work in the center position. Barajas was drew 61 ejections against his opponents and created power play opportunities for the Vikings.

Mujica was the final First-Team selection and this was his second consecutive All-SCC honors as last year he earned Second-Team recognition. Mujica was a speedy player who tallied 34 goals and always played with his head on a swivel to garner 75 assists.

Vucurovic also earned his second consecutive Second-Team honors as he tallied 25 goals and drew 29 ejections. Illic rounded out the Second-Team honors by leading the team with 51 steals.

The Vikings will be back in the pool next Fall.
