Despite not having played an official game yet, new Long Beach City College softball head coach Megan Martinez is already making a positive impact on the program and its team members. Last Wednesday, Martinez and her Vikings volunteered their time and donated food and supplies to Beacon for Him Ministries, a local homeless shelter located near downtown Long Beach.

"I was a bit overwhelmed with emotion," said Martinez reflecting on their time there. "It was an incredible experience to see these young women serve those in need. I am really proud of them. I've only been with them a short amount of time, but we are really evolving into a terrific squad."

Members of the softball team that participated included Mitzy Moreno, Sarah Maldonado, Yulissa Dominguez, Isabel deNava, Brooke Loard, Bernice Beltran, Tristin Zazueta, Mariah Jacobo, Mayra Fausto, Anissa Hamilton, Daisy Castro, Jennifer Pantoja, Daisy Velasquez, and volunteer assistant coach Ami Hartnett-Vasquez.

While there, the team helped prepare the meal and serve dinner. Beacon for Him Ministries is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the sacred human dignity of homeless and at-risk men, women, and children in the Long Beach community. For more information on Beacon for Him Ministries, visit http://www.beaconforhim.org.
