Long Beach City College closed out its non-conference schedule with an 11-3 five-inning loss at No. 5 state-ranked Cypress College on Friday. Cypress erupted for 10 unearned runs in the third inning to put the game out of reach.

LBCC actually lead early, taking a 3-1 lead in the top of the third. The Vikings loaded the bases with one out before freshman Daisy Velasquez (Bellflower HS) drove in freshman Yulissa Dominguez (Santa Fe HS) with a single. Later, a two-out error by the Chargers allowed sophomores Doreen Corella (San Pedro HS) and Brianna Alvarez (Montebello HS) to both score.

But Cypress sent 14 batters to the plate in the bottom of third and after a two-out LBCC error, the Chargers scored 10 runs on six hits, two walks, and two hit batters.

Dominguez led Long Beach at the plate, collecting two of the Vikings' six hits on the day. Freshman Anissa Hamilton (Downey HS) took the loss after allowing six runs (one earned) and five hits over 3+ innings of work.

Long Beach returns to action on Tuesday (Feb. 16) at 3 p.m. when the Vikings open South Coast Conference play at Mt. San Antonio College.
