The Long Beach City College softball team hit the road on Saturday to face off against the San Diego Mesa College Olympians for a non-conference doubleheader. After dropping the first game by the final score of 5-3, the Vikings rallied to bang out 19 hits and send home 14 runners en route to a 14-0 victory in five innings.
In the win, freshman first baseman Julia Juarez (Long Beach, CA) led the way by going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Freshman pitcher Alissa Cienfuegos (Carson, CA) was an RBI machine by recording three RBI on a 1-for-4 mark.
Freshman center fielder Cynthia Ruiz (Long Beach, CA) made a huge impact as well by going 3-for-3 at the plate, while sophomore third baseman Denise Flores (Carson, CA) and sophomore second baseman Daisy Velasquez (Bellflower, CA) barreled two hits and scored a combined three runs.
Cienfuegos earned the win in the circle after tossing a pair of effective innings and fanning a batter. Sophomore reliever Sierra Torres (Stockton, CA) chucked three innings and struck out a trio of batters while not allowing a hit.
The Vikings (11-10, 1-0 SCC) will hit the road on Tuesday, March 14th to face off against the El Camino College Warriors in a conference battle. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
