The Long Beach City College softball team fell in their home opener to the Orange Coast College Pirates 4-2 on Wednesday afternoon at the Vikings Softball Field.
Sophomore pitcher Alissa Cienfuegos (0-2) took the loss on the mound with four runs on nine hits in seven innings of work.
The Pirates brought in their first run in the third inning off a double. Cienfuegos answered back to the Pirates with a home run to tie the score 1-1.
Orange Coast came back in the top of the fourth with a home run and then ran in again in the top of the sixth to bring the score up 3-1.
The Vikings had one more in them and freshman Emilee Hoppe ran home from third off a throwing error from the Pirates' third baseman. The Pirates score once more in the seventh to seal the 4-2 win.
The Vikings will play again at home in a doubleheader against San Diego Mesa on Friday, Feb. 2 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
