Softball Falls in the Seventh Inning to El Camino

The Vikings fell to the El Camino Warriors 4-6 in their second South Coast Conference contest. With the loss, the Vikings drop to 10-9 overall and 0-2 in conference.

Sophomore pitcher Alissa Cienfuegos (5-8) took the loss with six runs on nine hits, while striking out three in nine innings.

The Warriors were first on the board in the top of the second inning with a 2 RBI single. The Vikings caught up in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI single from sophomore catcher Samantha Ontiveros to bring in freshman third baseman Raven Agapay.

Freshman designated player Elena Vizcarra was at the dish and singled to bring in Ontiveros and then freshman center fielder Emilee Hoppe made it home by a throwing error from the Warrior center fielder to take the 3-2 lead for the Vikings.

Agapay homered in the bottom of the third inning to extend the lead for Long Beach 4-2. The Warriors slowly picked up their offense with one run in the fourth inning and then scored three more in the top of the seventh to take the lead and the win over the Vikings.

The Long Beach City College softball team will compete again on Thursday, Mar. 1 at LA Harbor College at 3 p.m.
