Undefeated Softball Battles Pasadena for Eighth-Consecutive Win

The Long Beach softball team defeated the Pasadena City College Lancers 5-3 for their second conference win and to extend their winning-streak to eight-consecutive games. Freshman pitcher Noelany Benitez (2-0) earned the big win on the mound, as she only allowed one run on three hits to the Lancers.

Pasadena was first on the board in the top of the first with a sacrifice fly and an RBI single. The Vikings had to rally to battle back and finally came through with two runs in the bottom of the third. Freshman catcher Jocelyn Cebedo singled to right field to bring in freshman pinch runner Jaydy Machuca and then freshman third baseman Ileana Rivera smashed a single to score in Cebedo to tie the game.

The Lancers came back fighting as they scored on a wild pitch to take back the lead 3-2 in the top of the fourth.

The Vikings then battled back again and Rivera smashed a single for two RBI and scored in sophomore first baseman Ashley Pozo and freshman short stop Jade Wittman to take the lead 4-3.

Long Beach still had more in them as freshman pinch runner Savannah Headley capitalized on a Lancer throwing error and scored the Vikings' fifth run to ultimately win the conference game 5-3.

The undefeated Vikings will play again in their third conference game against East Los Angeles College at home on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 3 p.m.
