Softball Holds Off LA Harbor 4-3

The Long Beach City College softball team took down LA Harbor College 4-3 in a conference showdown on Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Vikings advance to 10-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

Freshman pitcher Brittney Runyon (1-0) earned her first win on the mound with only allowing the Seahawks to one run on one hit in 2.1 innings. Freshman pitcher Noelany Benitez (3-2) earned her first save of the season by holding off the Seahawks in the last two innings.

The Vikings scored their first run in the bottom of the third inning with freshman pinch runner Sabrina Perdomo scoring on a Seahawk error. Then freshman right fielder Inessa Smith hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in freshman center fielder Destinee Ripley to extend the lead 2-0.

The Vikings continued their offensive momentum in the bottom of the fourth inning with an RBI double from sophomore pinch hitter Raven Agapay to score in freshman pinch runner Briana Aguilar. Then in the bottom of the fifth, freshman catcher Jocelyn Cebedo scored in Ripley to lead LA Harbor 4-0.

The Seahawks bounced back in the top of the sixth with three runs, but it wasn't enough and the Vikings closed out the game with the 4-3 conference win.

The Long Beach City College softball team will return on Friday, Mar. 1 against Cerro Coso at 2 p.m.
