The Long Beach City College softball team took down the LA Harbor College Seahawks 6-3 on Thursday afternoon in their final home game of the season. With the conference win, the Vikings improve to 19-19 overall, and 10-11 in South Coast Conference (SCC) action.

Freshman pitcher Brittney Runyon (3-6) earned the win in the circle with only allowing the Seahawks to three runs, while striking out three.

The Vikings blew the Seahawks off the field by commanding the lead instantly. Freshman short stop Jade Wittman doubled to center field to bat in freshman center fielder Yazmin Zendejas for the Vikings' first run in the bottom of the first inning. Then freshman third baseman Ileana Rivera hit an RBI single to right field to score in Wittman. Sophomore first baseman Ashley Pozo closed out the inning with an RBI single to center field to score in Rivera for the 3-0 lead over the Seahawks.

The Vikings continued their offensive momentum with another RBI double from Wittman in the bottom of the second. Wittman currently sits on top of the SCC leaderboard with a .487 batting average.

Freshman left fielder Maria Aguilar batted in Wittman and then freshman pinch runner Sabrina Perdomo scored on a Seahawks passed ball to extend the Vikings lead 6-0 in the bottom of the second inning.

The Seahawks hit a three RBI home run in the top of the fifth, but it wasn't enough to catch up to the Vikings and Long Beach sealed the 6-3 conference victory on their home field.

The Long Beach City College softball team will play again on Tuesday, Apr. 23 at Compton College at 3 p.m.
