No. 7 Vikings Secure 5-1 Victory Over East Los Angeles
The LBCC softball team defeated ELAC on Tuesday afternoon.
The state-ranked No. 7 Long Beach City College softball team delivered a well-rounded performance, combining timely hitting with dominant pitching to earn a 5-1 victory over East Los Angeles College in their South Coast Conference matchup.
After the Huskies took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Vikings responded in the second. Center fielder Alesa Gonzalez put Long Beach on the board with an RBI groundout, scoring right fielder Mikayla Pacheco to tie the game. Moments later, Haleigh Jacobs came through with a clutch two-run double, driving in shortstop Jaela Ruiz and catcher Zara Mineo to give Long Beach a 3-1 advantage.
The Vikings added to their lead in the sixth inning when third baseman Michelle Cervantes ripped a two-run double, bringing home left fielder Sienna Rievley and second baseman Jacobs to extend the cushion to 5-1.
On the mound, Adalise Valenzuela (6-0) was impressive yet again, earning the win after tossing five strong innings. She allowed just one run on five hits while striking out two. Mariah Zapata came in for the final two frames, holding the Huskies scoreless and allowing just two hits to secure the victory.
The Vikings will be back in action on Friday, March 7 when they travel to No. 13 Mt. San Antonio College at 3 p.m.
