Track and Field: LBCC head coach Karen Vigilant Goodman to be inducted into Wilson High School Hall of Fame

Current Long Beach City College head coach of women's track and field and cross country Karen Vigilant Goodman will be inducted in the Wilson High School on Wednesday, February 4. She will be honored at halftime of the Wilson vs. Jordan High School boy's basketball game at 6:30 p.m. She is the 156th overall member of the school's hall of fame.

"I'm very honored to be inducted into the Wilson Hall of Fame," Vigilant Goodman said. "It isn't something you think about when you are in high school, but I am deeply honored.

Vigilant Goodman is a 1993 graduate of Wilson where she set new school records in the triple jump and 300 hurdles. She moved on to LBCC and completed an impressive two-year career. As a freshman in 1994, she captured the 100-meter hurdle state championship and was a member of the 4x100 and 4x400-meter state championship squads.

In 1995, she helped lead Long Beach to a team state championship. While at LBCC, she set school records in the 400-meter hurdles, and in both the 400 and 1,600-meter relays.

Following LBCC, Vigilant Goodman transferred to the University of Arizona on an athletic scholarship. As a junior in 1996, she earned All-American honors in the 400-meter hurdles.

Vigilant Goodman took over the head coaching duties at LBCC in 2003 and was inducted into the Long Beach City College Hall of Champions (athletic hall of fame) in 2013.
