Track and Field: Long Beach racks up 29 top-10 finishes at Pasadena Relays

The Long Beach City College track and field team put together an impressive effort to total 29 top-10 finishes at the 2015 Pasadena Relays at Pasadena City College's Robinson Stadium on Saturday.

The Viking men had 15 top-10 showings, including six in the top three. Travis Thomas was one of two Vikings to earn gold, taking first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.29. Jose Ochoa was also a winner in the javelin with a toss of 48.31 meters in the javelin. Ochoa went on to total three top-10s, taking sixth in the shot put and seventh in the discus.

Other top-3 finishes included Bayron Manuel (second place) in the 110-meter hurdles, Kendrick Miller in the 400 hurdles (second), Jared Jones in the steeplechase (second), and the 4x100 meter relay team (second).

On the women's side, Long Beach had 14 top-10s including four among the top three.

In throws, Jocelyn Ochoa had four top 10 showings, taking fourth in the javelin, eighth in the shot put, eighth in the discus, and ninth in the hammer throw.

Danasia Richards had the women's best individual performance, taking first in her heat and second place overall in the 100 meters with a time of 12.10. She also added a fifth-place finish in the 200 meters at 25.47. Also in sprints, Chantel Dunson was third in the 200 and sixth in the 100.

LBCC is back in action next Saturday (April 4) when it will compete at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational at Pomona College.
