Four members of the Long Beach City College track and field team went long distance to compete at the SF State Distance Carnival on April 4 in San Francisco. The group put together a great effort, compiling three personal best marks as well as one season best.

Leading the way was freshman Jared Jones in the 3000-meter steeplechase. He ran a PR of 9:41.78, which ranks him No. 10 on the all-time LBCC performance list. Jones cut down an impressive 27 seconds from his previous best set last week at the Pasadena Relays. His time ranks seventh in the state and is a CCC State A qualifying mark.

In the 800 meters, Tylor Wallace just missed eclipsing the two-minute mark, clocking in at 2:00.3 for a new PR. Christian Jezina also ran a PR time of 2:05.94.

Rounding out the Vikings' day in the bay was Omar Torres in the 5000 meters. He improved his season best and earns a CCC State A Qualifier with his 15:11.67 effort.

Next Saturday (Apr. 11), select members of the LBCC track and field team will compete Mt. SAC Relays Junior College Invitational. Competitors must qualify for the meet, making it a more exclusive event.
