Long Beach City College will be well represented at the South Coast Conference Track and Field Championship Finals as the Vikings have qualified for 22 events for Saturday's event. Also at Tuesday's SCC Prelims meet, LBCC already earned three top-10 finishes.

On the men's side, sophomore Jose Ochoa earned the Vikings eight points toward the final standings thanks to his second-place finish in the javelin after a toss of 47.90 meters. Also, sophomore Omar Torres's seventh-place finish in the 10,000 meters (33:40.00) was good for two points towards the team standings.

The Long Beach men will send 15 to Saturday's finals, with freshman Damond Burns leading the way in three individual events. He was eighth overall in the 100 and 200 meters and 10th in the long jump to earn spots in the finals.

Freshman Phillip Powell is a double qualifier, as he was first in his heat of the 800 meters (third overall) and led a group of four LBCC qualifiers in the 1,500 meters by finishing seventh overall. Joining Powell in the 1,500 will be sophomore Justin Weaver and freshmen Jordan Horton and Tylor Wallace.

Freshman Bayron Manuel cruised to the top time in his heat of the 110-meter high hurdles and will look to capture a SCC title on Saturday.

The LBCC women will send seven to the conference finals. Freshman Chantel Dunson got the Vikings started with a third-place finish in the triple jump. Her mark of 10.91 meters has already earned the Viking women six points towards the final team standings.
