Track & Field: Long Beach qualifies 15 for Southern California Regional preliminaries meet

12 Long Beach City College individuals as well as three relay teams will be representing the Vikings at next week's Southern California Regionals preliminaries meet thanks to their finishes at Friday's South Coast Conference Championship finals at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The LBCC women have qualified for 12 events while the Viking men have advanced in three. The SoCal Prelims are set for May 7 with the finals on May 14, with both meets taking place at Antelope Valley College in Lancaster.

Leading the way for the Long Beach women are double qualifiers Sherrice Pelle and Malika Spencer. Pelle posted a runner up finish in the 100-meter hurdles at 15.26 and also qualified in the 100 meters with her 13.12 effort for seventh place. Spencer was third in the 800 meters at 2:24.45 and was seventh in the 1500 meters with her time of 5:15.47.

Seayanna Crawford also had a second-place finish, as she qualified for the SoCal Prelims in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:07.90.

Both LBCC women's  relay teams will be moving on to Antelope Valley as the 4x100 squad ran 50.03 for third place and the 4x400 was second at 4:05.30.

For the Viking men, two individuals as well as the 4x400 relay team are moving on.

Jarrod Amyx's toss of 13.36 meters in the shot put earned him a third-place finish while Phillip Powell was also third in the 800 with a time of 1:56.14.

Also, the 4x400 team of Alex Hoskins, Powell, Ivan Salladay, and Willie Jenkins finished fourth with a SoCal qualifying time of 3:35.64.

In the final South Coast Conference Championship team standings, the Long Beach women finished fourth with 53 points while men tied for fifth place with 17 points.
