LBCC Track & Field Earns Solid Marks against Strong Competition

The men's and women's track & field programs traveled to San Diego, CA to compete in the 39th Annual Aztec Open at San Diego State University. While competing against numerous athletes that ranged from the Division I level to other California Community Colleges, the Vikings earned some solid marks leading to many top-25 finishes.

Sophomore Bayron Manuel highlighted the Viking efforts on the men's side by placing second overall in the 110M Hurdles. He earned a time of 14.52 which was just nine one-hundredths of a second behind the first-place finisher.

Freshman Manuel Gomez placed in the top-five in the 400M Hurdles by crossing the finish line at a time of 57.05 to earn him fourth place. Freshman Patrick Washington followed close behind by placing fifth in the same race with a time of 57.34.

Freshman M'Sai Mitchell placed in the top-10 in the 400M after posting a mark of 51.11. Freshman Bradley Ferguson place in the top-15 in the same race after earning the 14th slot with a mark of 51.39.

The women earned multiple top-25 finishes with the freshman duo Seayanna Crawford and Courtney Varela placing ninth and 11th, respectfully, in the 400M. Crawford earned a time of 1:01.80, while Varela ran to a mark of 1:02.21.

Freshman Veronica Mendez placed 18th overall in the 200M dash with a time of 27.27, backed by a 20th place finish from Valera with a time of 27.31. Freshman Lauryn Jones rounds out the highlights for the Vikings by earning a 5:12.22 mark in the 1500M to earn her 20th overall.

The Vikings will compete in the UCLA Community College Invite in Los Angeles, CA on Saturday, April 1st.
