LBCC Track & Field Bodes Well Against Strong Competition

The Long Beach City College track and field program traveled to Los Angeles, CA this past week to compete in the Cal State L.A. Twilight Open. The men and women put together solid results with both sides combining for nine top-10 finishes against various competitors representing Division I, II, III, NAIA, and CCCAA institutions.

For the men, the 400M race was the most promising as a trio of Vikings placed in the top-10. Freshman M'Sai Mitchell paced the pack by placing seventh with a time of 52.09. Freshman Manuel Gomez followed shortly behind in eighth place with a time of 52.61, while freshman Bradford Ferguson crossed the finish line at a time of 52.95 to finish ninth overall.

Freshman Patrick Washington placed in the top-10 in the 400M Hurdles after finishing with a time of 54.39 to earn seventh place. Freshman Gerardo Salazar performed well in the 800M by placing 10th with a finishing mark of 2:03.36.

For the women, freshman Nicole Ramirez earned a pair of top-10 finishes in two throwing events. She began her day by placing sixth in the Discuss with a mark of 34.68m. She finished off her day by placing 10th in the Hammer Toss with a distance of 31.38m.

Freshman Courtney Varela landed in the top-10 in the 400M by placing ninth with a time of 1:02.94. Freshman Seayanna Crawford finished right behind her with a mark of 1:02.94 to earn 10th place. Freshman Lauryn Jones capped off the top Viking performances with a 13th-place finish in the 1500M after crossing the finish line at a time of 5:16.30.

The Vikings will compete in the South Coast Conference Prelims at El Camino College on Tuesday, April 25th at 10 a.m.
