Track & Field Boasts Top Qualifiers in SCC Prelims

The Long Beach City College track and field team competed in the South Coast Conference Prelims at Cerritos College on Tuesday afternoon.

On the men's team, freshman distance runner Donovan Zavala took third place in the 10,000 meter preliminaries with a 33:55.02. Sophomore Moises Marquez was right behind him in sixth place with a time of 35:12.03.

Freshman Emari Bennett placed third in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 55.98 and placed ninth in the triple jump with a 12.31 meter mark. Sophomore James Martin took second place in the triple jump with a distance of 14.03 meters and sophomore Thomas Pool placed fourth for the Vikings in the javelin with a 41.99 meter mark.

For the women's team, freshman Destinee Augustus placed fifth in the 100 meter prelims with a time of 12.24 and freshman Aazalet Danage took home fifth in the 200 meter prelims with a 25.27.

Freshman Lyling Irwin placed fourth in the pole vault with a 3.05 meter mark and freshman Calissa Candelot finished in second place for Long Beach in the javelin with a 34.29 meter mark.

The Vikings will return to action in the South Coast Conference Finals on Saturday, Apr. 27 at Cerritos College.
