Women's Basketball: Rayford earns December honorable mention state honors

Following an impressive month of December for the Long Beach City College women's basketball team, sophomore forward Talia Rayford was named California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA)/California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) State Athlete of the Month honorable mention.

Rayford helped lead the LBCC to one of its best starts in school history as the Vikings compiled a 9-0 record in December on its way to winning the Irvine Valley and Grossmont College tournament championships.

Rayford was named tournament MVP at both tournaments. Over three games in Irvine, she averaged 9.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.7 blocks and 3.0 steals per game. And at Grossmont, she averaged 14 points and 9 rebounds. During the month of December, Rayford averaged a double-double with 10.9 points and 10.6 rebounds per game.

Long Beach is currently ranked No. 6 in the state and is 15-2 overall this season (as of Jan 17).
