Women's Basketball: Benton, Cockerhan, Logan sign with Talladega College

A trio of standout Long Beach City College women's basketball players have signed their national letters of intent to take their talents to the state of Alabama next season. Shakeena Benton (Lakewood HS), Crystal Cockerhan (Poly HS), and Symphony Logan (Jordan HS) will continue their academic and athletic careers at Talladega College this upcoming fall.

"The women's basketball staff is extremely proud of these young ladies," said LBCC head coach Michael Anderson. "The journey for all three has been a process that they have worked so very hard to achieve their dreams of playing and moving on to the next level. LBCC is very grateful for Talladega College and their women's basketball program. We will be rooting hard and watching as Symphony, Shakeena, and Crystal continue their education and basketball journey with the Tornadoes!"

This past season, the group helped lead the Vikings to a school-record 26 wins as the Vikings advanced to the fourth-round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs. Long Beach was 26-5 overall and captured a South Coast Conference South Division championship with an 11-2 mark.

Benton was one of  our Vikings to earn first-team All-SCC South Division honors this past season. From the guard position, she averaged 12.9 points and 3.1 assists per game over 31 contests for the Vikings. Benton scored a career-high 33 points in just 19 minutes in a blowout victory over LA Harbor College on January 10.

Cockerhan, a second-team all-conference pick, had an impressive season averaging 8.3 points and a team-high 9.7 rebounds and 3.3 blocks while sharing time at the center position. Cockerhan had her finest game of the season when she scored 19 points and grabbed 20 rebounds against Mt. San Antonio College on January 29.

Logan also earned second-team all-conference honors as the Vikings top reserve off the bench. She averaged 6.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.0 assists from the small forward position for LBCC. Logan's best game came against East Los Angeles College as she scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a narrow win on January 24.

Talladega College is located in Talladega, Alabama just east of Birmingham. The Tornadoes play at the NAIA level and are a member of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. This past season, Talladega compiled a 26-5 overall record and won the GCAC title at 10-1 on its way to advancing to the NAIA National Tournament.
