Women's Basketball: Long Beach edged by No. 8 El Camino, 68-64

Freshman Jessica Njoku (Narbonne HS) posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds in Long Beach City College's 68-64 loss to visiting No. 8 state-ranked El Camino College on Friday at the LBCC Hall of Champions Gym. 

The South Coast Conference South Division loss dropped the Vikings to 10-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Long Beach led 34-27 at halftime before El Camino opened the second with a 9-2 run to even the score at 36. Shonte Trudeau's jumper with 1:43 left in the game gave El Camino the lead for good at 63-62.

Turnovers played a huge role in the loss as LBCC turned the ball over 31 times resulting in 28  El Camino points. Long Beach outrebounded the Warriors by a 57-33 margin but managed just 13 second-chance points.

Sophomore Antoinette Davis (Compton HS) had a big game on the boards for LBCC, grabbing 15 rebounds to go with seven points. Freshman Lupe Cruz (South East HS) added nine points and seven rebounds

Trudeau led El Camino (13-4, 2-0 SCC) with 18 points and nine rebounds.

Long Beach returns to action on Wednesday (Jan 14) when it travels to LA Harbor College for a 5 pm SCC South Division game.
