Women’s Basketball: Vikings win third straight, beat El Camino 61-44

Sophomore Lupe Cruz (South East HS) posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds to help lead Long Beach City College to a 61-44 South Coast Conference South Division win at El Camino College on Wednesday night. LBCC's third straight victory improved the Vikings to 18-4 overall and 2-0 in the SCC South.

Long Beach was down early, trailing El Camino 7-4 at the six-minute mark in the first before the Vikings put together a 13-0 run to jump ahead 17-7. LBCC was up 24-9 after the opening quarter and led 36-21 at halftime.

The Warriors (11-11, 2-1 SCC) cut the LBCC lead to seven points, 43-36, at the end of the third quarter before Cruz took over in the fourth. She scored the Vikings' first six points of the period as the Vikings opened with an 8-0 run to extend its advantage back to 15 points.

Sophomore Kayla Sii (Lakewood HS) and freshman Paris Lucci (Palos Verdes Peninsula HS) both came off the bench to score 10 points. Sophomore Christiana Layne (Lynwood HS) also chipped in with eight points, six rebounds, and two blocks.

Long Beach returns to action on Friday (Jan. 29) when the Vikings travel to Los Angeles Harbor College for a 5 p.m. SCC South game.
