Women’s Basketball Dominates LA Southwest in Conference Victory

The women's basketball team defeated the LA Southwest Cougars on Friday evening 92-58 in their third South Coast Conference game. This brings the Vikings to 15-8 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

The Vikings opened the game with a three pointer from sophomore guard Julia Ochoa, followed by another three pointer from sophomore guard Esther Franks. The Vikings held onto the lead and finished the first quarter 28-8.

The Cougars started to bring in some offensive momentum in the second quarter, but sophomore guard Doylebonet Walker, freshman point De'Brianna Hampton, sophomore point Arraeil Saunders and freshman point Imani Edmond stopped the Cougars by scoring four points each.

Kendria Rendon dominated the third quarter by putting up seven points for the Vikings. In the fourth quarter, the Vikings continued to take over offensively by owning the largest lead of the game by 42 points. The Vikings then finalized the conference victory 92-58.

Long Beach totaled 40 rebounds and 17 steals for the game. Hampton led the team with 17 points and sophomore point Brittnay McDaniel worked at the basket with 10 rebounds.

The Vikings will play again Wednesday, Jan. 31 in their next conference game at Cerritos College at 5 p.m.
