Women’s Basketball Defeats LA Harbor in Conference Game

The women's basketball team hit the century mark for the first time this season with the 102-39 conference win over LA Harbor College. The Vikings are now 16-9 overall and 3-2 in the South Coast Conference. Doylebonet Walker, Esther Franks, Arraeil Saunders, Kendria Rendon and Imani Edmond all scored over 10 points to seal the big win for the Vikings.

The Vikings took off in the first quarter with back-to-back jumpers from Walker. Sophomore guard Julia Ochoa came to play by making a three pointer to keep the lead for the Vikings. The Seahawks fought for the lead in the first quarter, but the Vikings turned up the offense and finished the quarter with a jump shot by Janay Wellington to hold on to the 18-11 lead.

In the second quarter, the Vikings came out hard on defense and only allowed nine points to the Seahawks. Rendon topped the quarter with eight points, two steals, and two assists. Freshman guard Rosalinda Taosoga also made a three pointer for the Vikings.

In the final half of the game, the Vikings added 48 more points to the board. In total, the Vikings had 48 rebounds and had the largest lead of the game at 65 points by the end of the fourth quarter. Franks led the team with nine rebounds and had seven assists and three steals. She was also near perfect at the three point line with making three out of four shots.

The Vikings will play again on Friday, Feb.9 against El Camino at 5 p.m. in their next conference game and will host the 2018 Coaches vs Cancer event.
