Four Women’s Basketball Athletes Earn All Conference Recognition, Will Travel to LA Trade Tech in Regional Playoffs
Sophomore guards Julia Ochoa and Jada Haynes both hauled in Second-Team accolades, while sophomore guard Doylebonet Walker and sophomore point Brittnay McDaniel earned First-Team honors.
It was recently announced by the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) that four members of the No. 13 Long Beach City College women's basketball team earned South Coast Conference (SCC) – South All-Conference recognition at the conclusion of the 2017-18 regular season. Sophomore guards Julia Ochoa and Jada Haynes both hauled in Second-Team accolades, while sophomore guard Doylebonet Walker and sophomore point Brittnay McDaniel earned First-Team honors.
Ochoa earns Second-Team recognition by starting in eight conference games and averaged 2.9 rebound per game. Ochoa was efficient at the line and boasted a 61.9 percentage average under while shooting under pressure. She also nabbed being fourth overall in conference for averaging 2.2 steals per game.
Haynes rounds out Second-Team honors in her first season with the Vikings. Haynes was reliable at the line and was perfect in free throws in six games. Haynes also boasted 30 assists in conference with 77 overall during the season. She was quick in decision making behind the ball and averaged 8.9 points per game.
Walker was the offensive leader on the team and second in the conference with putting up a total of 452 points over the course of the season, with 136 points in conference. She was third overall in the conference with averaging 16.1 points per game. At the three point line, she drained 15 buckets throughout the conference season and 68 overall.
McDaniel earns First-Team accolades with being a consistent threat at the rim. McDaniel averaged 7.4 rebounds per game and was third in conference with 195 total rebounds. She was also second in conference with averaging a 44.5 percentage at the hoop and totaling 199 points in the season. McDaniel led the team and the conference with averaging four blocks per game, while totaling 111 blocks overall.
The women's basketball team will start their post-season play by traveling to No. 4 LA Trade Tech on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. in the CCCAA Regional Playoffs.
