Hampton Holds on to Palomar in Tough Loss at Home

The women's basketball team fell to the No. 5 Palomar College Comets 74-69 in a brutal battle on Tuesday evening in the Hall of Champions. With the loss, the Vikings drop to 3-4 overall.

The Comets took the reins in first quarter with an 11-3 jump start lead. Freshman forward Naomi Winston-Ellis was the first Viking to the basket with a three pointer to get the Vikings' offense moving. Winston-Ellis totaled 12 points for the game and had six rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block against the Comets.

In the second and third quarters, the Vikings outshot the Comets and tied the game seven different times. Palomar couldn't hold down sophomore forward De'Brianna Hampton, as she was increasing her points every quarter with scoring six in the second and seven in the third. She led the team with 20 total points, had six rebounds and three assists.

Freshman guard Jaseemah Martinez led the team with seven rebounds and scored ten Vikings points.

Palomar closed the gap in the fourth quarter and ended the game with the 74-69 win over the Vikings.

The women's basketball team will play again on Friday, December 7 against LA Valley at 5 p.m. in LA Valley College.
