Women’s Basketball Drop Fourth Quarter in Crossover Tournament

The Long Beach City College women's basketball team fell to the Rio Hondo College Roadrunners 55-54 in their second game of the Crossover Tournament in the Hall of Champions. With the loss, the Vikings fall to 7-11 overall.

The Vikings opened the game with back-to-back shots from sophomore forward Naomi Winston-Ellis to kick off the lead 4-0. Long Beach took over offensively and closed out the first quarter 14-7.

In the second quarter, then sophomore forward De'Brianna Hampton kept the lead by scoring six points with sophomore guard Kaylin Brown hit four points for the Vikings.

The Vikings only allowed nine points to the Roadrunners in the third quarter, but Rio Hondo was ready to make a comeback in the fourth quarter. The Roadrunners took control offensively and reclaimed the 50-49 lead with five minutes left in the game. Brown hit a three pointer take back the lead, but it wasn't enough, and Rio Hondo tied the game with three minutes left. The Roadrunners pressed on and took home the 55-54 win.

Brown led the team with 19 points and had six rebounds and two steals. Hampton was right behind her with 12 points and had eight rebounds and four assists.

The Vikings will return to action on Jan. 23 against Cerritos in the conference opener in the Hall of Champions at 7 p.m.
