Women’s Basketball Defeats Cerritos for Ninth-Consecutive Win

The Long Beach City College women's basketball team defeated Cerritos College in a come-from-behind 67-64 conference win. With the victory, the Vikings remain undefeated in the South Coast Conference with a 7-0 record and are 17-8 overall.

The Vikings took the first quarter 25-12 against the Falcons, but then only scored four points in the second quarter to end the half tied 29-29.

The Falcons tested the Vikings and posted 20 more points in the third quarter, while the Vikings only put up 15 to trail behind 44-49. In the fourth quarter, the Vikings pushed harder and surpassed the Falcons with less than a minute left in the game and ultimately took the 67-64 win away from Cerritos.

Freshman wing Donavion Huskey led the team with the double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds and tallied seven assists. Freshman wing Samantha Ballantyne had 14 points and Isabel Lizarraga nailed 12 points for the Vikings.

Freshman post Ivori Scott was the catalyst for the Vikings' comeback in the fourth quarter. She started the offensive rally with making the shots at the line with less than a minute left in the game. She also led the team with 17 rebounds and had eight points.

The women's basketball team will return to conference action on Friday, Feb. 14 at Compton College at 5 p.m.
