Second-quarter rally lifts No. 18 Long Beach to win at East Los Angeles

MONTEREY PARK – A trio of double-doubles by Aaliyah Carter, Amanda Lopez, and Ariana Grimes helped lead No. 18 state-ranked Long Beach City College to a 73-58 South Coast Conference interdivision win at East Los Angeles College on Friday night.

Carter posted 17 points and 12 rebounds, Lopez had 12 points and 11 assists, and Grimes totaled 10 points and 11 rebounds. Jaden Sanderson nearly joined them with 18 points and 9 rebounds.

LBCC trailed the Huskies 16-14 after the first quarter and was down 22-23 with 5:16 to go in the second. But the Vikings surged to an 11-0 run over the next four minutes and closed out the period outscoring East Los Angeles 13-3, getting 7 points from Sanderson, to go into halftime with a 35-26 advantage.

The win improved Long Beach to 10-6 overall. The Vikings return to action on Wednesday (Jan. 11) when they host No. 11 Mt. San Antonio College in another SCC crossover game.
