Vikings Take Down Cuesta, Advance to Round 2 of SoCal Regionals

In a thrilling showdown, the 9th-ranked Long Beach City College women's basketball squad triumphed over the 24th-ranked Cuesta College Cougars in the opening clash of the SoCal Regional Playoffs, securing a 72-61 victory.

Right from the tip-off, the Vikings asserted their dominance, surging ahead with an 18-14 lead in the first quarter. As the game progressed, their intensity only grew, blazing into halftime with an impressive 44-24 advantage. Refusing to let up, they maintained their offensive attack in the second half, ultimately clinching the playoff win with a final score of 72-61 and punching their ticket to the next round.

"We had a great week of preparation for this game and we played really well together as a team," said Assistant Coach Vince Nicholson. "We are excited for the next round on Saturday."

Freshman sensation Jezelle Moreno showcased her talent with an outstanding double-double performance, tallying 20 points, and 11 rebounds, along with four steals and two blocks. Meanwhile, freshman standout Brillana Boyd contributed 17 points and six rebounds, while freshman powerhouse Chioma Okenwa dominated the boards with 10 rebounds and added nine points.

With their sights set on further glory, the Vikings are gearing up for a showdown against No.9 Victor Valley on Saturday, March 2nd.
