Michael Anderson returns for his ninth season as head coach of the LBCC women's basketball team in 2018. In just a short period of time, Anderson has transformed a struggling program into a conference champion and state championship contender.

In 2017, Anderson led the Vikings to a 18-12 overall record going 9-1 in conference. The Vikings won their second-consecutive SCC South Championship and made a CCCAA playoff apperance but fell to Antelope Valley 65-59. Anderson boasted five athletes earning all-conference acolades.

Over the past four seasons, Anderson's squads have continued to rack up more wins and advance further into the postseason each year. He begins the 2014-15 season with an overall record of 74-37 and 36-15 in conference play.

This past season (2013-14), the Vikings set a new school record with 26 wins and advanced to the fourth round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs. Long Beach was just one win from qualifying for the State Championship final four.

LBCC went 26-5 overall and captured the program's first South Coast Conference championship since 2007 with an 11-2 record. For his efforts, Anderson was named the SCC South Division Coach of the Year.

The 2012-13 Vikings tied the then school-record for wins with a 24-5 overall mark. LBCC finished second in the SCC at 13-3 and rolled to the third round of the SoCal Playoffs.

After a tough opening season in 2010, the program began to shine in 2011-12 for Anderson. The Vikings went 19-7 and were 11-5 in conference play. LBCC qualified for the postseason for the first time since 2007 and advanced to round two of the SoCal playoffs.

Anderson returned to LBCC after a successful seven-year run (2004-10) at Magnolia High School in Anaheim where he guided both the girl’s and boy’s varsity basketball squads.

While at Magnolia, Anderson immediately transformed relatively unknown girl’s and boy’s basketball programs into champions.

In six seasons, he led the Magnolia girls to a 126-52 overall record. His teams won 59 straight league contests on their way to six consecutive Orange League championships.

His 2008 squad won the CIF Division III Southern Section Championship and reached the CIF state championship game as he was named the State Division III Coach of the Year by Cal-Hi Sports and was also named Coach of the Year by the Orange County Register.

In 2006, he guided the Magnolia girls to the CIF Southern Section finals and advanced to the state championship quarterfinals on his way to being named the Los Angeles Times Coach of the Year.

On the boy’s side in 2010, he led Magnolia to the school’s first Orange League title in 12 years and was named league coach of the year for the second time.

Prior to Magnolia, Anderson was the head coach of boy’s basketball at Bolsa Grande High School (1996-2000).

Anderson leaves the high school ranks with a 245-152 overall record in girl’s and boy’s games at both Magnolia and Bolsa Grande. He won eight league titles and advanced to the CIF quarterfinals or better six times.

Michael Anderson also served as an assistant coach for Gary Anderson’s men’s basketball squads while at LBCC for three seasons (2001-04).
