The Long Beach City College women's soccer team put up a good fight, but ultimately lost 1-0 at No. 2 nationally-ranked Cerritos College on Tuesday to open South Coast Conference play.

Long Beach was outshot by a 19-6 margin, but the Viking defense and sophomore goalkeeper Evelyn Fierros (Bishop Amat HS) was able to keep the Falcons off the board in the first half.

Cerritos' Natalie deLeon got the game's lone goal in the 60th minute.

Sophomores Joanna Perone (San Pedro HS) and  Niki Voulgaris (Wilson HS/Southern Utah University) had LBCC's best chance at scoring, but both their shots were knocked down by Cerritos goalkeeper Ruby Nichols. Fierros totaled a season-high 11 saves in goal for the Vikings.

Long Beach, now 3-3-1 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play, returns home to take on El Camino College-Compton Center on Friday (Oct. 2) at 4 p.m.
