Women's Soccer Runs Past El Camino in First Conference Game

The Long Beach City College women's soccer team propelled past the El Camino Warriors in their 2-1 conference win on Tuesday afternoon. The Vikings grabbed the lead in the first half and held on until the final whistle.

Freshman goalkeeper Briana Alarcon had four saves with five shots on goal in 90 minutes of work for the Vikings. Sophomore defender Maria Vitiello held the backline alongside with freshman Jessica Ochoa.

The first goal was from a penalty kick in the 15th minute of the game from freshman defender Madison Slade. The second goal for the Vikings was from Jennifer Delgadillo, who dribbled past the defenders and the goalkeeper on a breakaway to bring the lead up 2-0.

In the 76th minute of the game, El Camino scored their only goal, but the tension quickly thickened as the game wasn't over just yet. The game finished and the Vikings walked away with their first conference win of the season and their third consecutive win.

Women's soccer will play again in their second conference game on Friday, Sept. 29 at Compton College at 4 p.m.
