The Long Beach City College women's soccer team won their first game of the season in their home opener against Golden West College on Tuesday afternoon.

The Rustlers were first to score in the first minute of the game with a corner kick header, but then they fouled the Vikings in the goal box and freshman forward Allison Rose Veloz took the penalty kick and smashed it in the bottom left-hand corner to tie the game 1-1.

Veloz was back at it again in the second half with a long, hard kick to the top left corner of the Rustlers' cage to seal the Vikings' 2-1 victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Almareli Quintero was a force in the goal as she totaled three saves for the Vikings.  

The Long Beach City College women's soccer team will return to the field on Friday, Sept. 13 against Saddleback College at the Orange County Great Park at 3 p.m.
