The South Division's best Long Beach City College won its rematch v. North Division champ Mt. San Antonio, 2-0, to capture the South Coast Conference Tournament title in the finals played at LBCC on Friday night.

The Vikings (7-0-2 in the conference regular season) and Mt. San Antonio (also 7-0-2) had played to a 0-0 tie in their first meeting back on Oct. 13.

Ranked #5 in the state sports information communicators poll, Long Beach remains undefeated overall at 14-0-5 as just one of two teams in the state that hasn't lost a match in 2023 (state #1-ranked Saddleback is 19-0-1).

Taking first place in the South Division, Long Beach wins its second straight title and ninth in its history in the South Coast. Number 4-ranked Mt. San Antonio (15-3-3) was North Division champions for their second consecutive conference title and 11th in the Mounties' SCC history (all since 1999). *Note--The SCC Tournament is not a winner-take-all event as the conference recognizes South and North Division champions based on the 9-game SCC regular season schedule.

The Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the tourney title game on a goal by freshman forward Kiana Moore in the sixth minute, then freshman midfielder Sydney Trump made it 2-0 with a goal in the 37th minute. Freshman forward Hannah Marshall assisted on both goals. LBCC stopped Mt. SAC's 10-game (8-0-2) undefeated streak.

The Mounties reached the finals behind a 5-0 win over Pasadena City as Kristin Mijares scored two goals. Long Beach beat Rio Hondo, 6-2, to reach the finals.

The Vikings will be back on the pitch, this weekend for SoCal Regionals playoffs. Stay tuned to LBCCVikings.com for more information.
