LBCC Swim Team Place at the SCC Championships

The Long Beach City College swim team competed in the South Coast Conference (SCC) Championships this past weekend at the campus of Mt. San Antonio College. The Vikings performed well with the men placing fifth overall (376 points) and the women placing fourth (341 points).

On the men's side, sophomore Shaun Spalding brought home a gold medal in the 50 yard freestyle with a final time of 21.40. Spaulding dropped time in all his events and brought home two silver medals, along with his gold medal. He placed second in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 51.76 and second in the 100 yard freestyle with a 47.18.

Sophomore Carl Matthews placed third in the 100 yard backstroke by shaving three seconds off his seed time and finalized his bronze medal with a 1:07.37. Freshman Kobe Jackson also placed third in the 100 yard free with a 47.94 and took home the silver medal in the 200 yard free with a 1:49.08.

For the women's team, distance swimmer sophomore Charli Chavarria placed fourth in the 100 yard free with 58.02 and fifth in the 500 yard free with a 5:48.75.

Sophomore Lindsey Mizrahi took home the bronze medal by dropping four seconds off the 100 yard butterfly with 1:06.38.

Cori Reynolds also brought home the bronze in the 100 yard breast stroke by taking off five seconds off her time and finishing with a 1:10.35. Reynolds also placed fourth in the 200 yard breast stroke with a 2:43 flat.
