Sophomore Jasmine Hyacinth won her No. 4 singles match and combined with freshman Kelly Zellner to win at No. 3 doubles for both Long Beach City College points in the Vikings' 7-2 loss at Hope International University in both teams' season opener on Thursday.

Hope International, located in Fullerton, competes at the NAIA level.

LBCC freshman Mimi Mercado nearly picked up a victory at No. 1 singles. After splitting the opening sets vs. Sabrina Miller (6-1, 0-6), Mercado was edged 7-6 in the third.

Long Beach, now 0-1, hosts Santa Barbara City College in its home opener on Tuesday (Feb. 2) at 2 p.m.
