It took six matches into the season, but the Long Beach City College women's tennis team has its first win thanks to its 9-0 South Coast Conference victory over visiting Victor Valley College on Tuesday.
Combined with forfeits by Victor Valley at No. 5 and 6 singles, LBCC allowed just five points in its matches to the Rams.
Freshman Mimi Mercado (No. 2 singles), sophomore Jasmine Hyacinth (No. 3 singles), and freshman Maria Gonzalez (No. 4 singles) were all 6-0, 6-0 straight-set winners.
At No. 1 doubles, Mercado and Hyacinth combined for an 8-0 victory over the VVC team of Victoria Craig and Paige Jones.
Long Beach, now 1-5 overall and 1-1 in the SCC, returns to action on Thursday (Feb. 18) when the Vikings travel to Cerritos College for a 2 p.m. conference match.
