Long Beach City College could do little to stop their crosstown rivals as the Vikings suffered a 9-0 South Coast Conference loss to visiting Cerritos College on Thursday. The Falcons entered the match after just recently being named the No. 1 team in Southern California by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

LBCC opened the contest with 8-1 losses at all three doubles matches. In singles, the Vikings suffered 6-0, 6-0 losses at the top three positions while freshman Brittany Ruelas totaled three points in her 6-1, 6-2 defeat by Cerritos' Danielle Pastor at No. 5.

The loss dropped Long Beach to 2-12 overall and 2-7 in the SCC while Cerritos improved to 14-1 and 8-0 in conference play. The Vikings return to action on Monday (Mar. 21) when they host Colby College of Maine in a 2 p.m. non-conference match.
