Women’s Volleyball Falls to Irvine Valley 3-0

The Long Beach City College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to visiting Irvine Valley College on Friday evening. LBCC lost by scores of 25-20, 25-23, and 25-21 to fall to 1-3 overall.

The Vikings got behind early and couldn't bring themselves out of the hole. Sophomore Tatyana Umi led the team with 27 total attacks and 13 kills. Freshman setter Shelby Cole totaled 14 digs for the game.

In the first set of the game, the Vikings rebounded towards the end by scoring six straight points in a row. freshman middle blocker Isabella Alvarez led the set with a service ace.

In the second set of the game, LBCC rallied against the Lasers by scoring the first five points with Luisa Lutali behind the serve. During the set, the Vikings totaled 14 kills against Irvine Valley.

In the final set, the tension tightened between the teams with back and forth scoring. The Vikings fell in the final round and the Lasers took home the 3-0 win.

Women's volleyball will play again on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at the College of the Canyons at 6 p.m.
