Women's Volleyball Continues Winning Streak With Conference Victory

The Vikings opened their first conference game with a three-set win over LA Harbor on Wednesday evening. Long Beach City College got increasingly better in each set and won by the scores of 25-20, 25-13 and 25-15. This is the 8th consecutive win for the Vikings and are now 1-0 in conference and 9-3 overall.

Sophomore outside hitter Austin Edwards ignited the Vikings' offence with back to back points, starting with a service ace and a kill. LBCC fell behind, but then quickly caught up with four consecutive kills from freshman setter Sierra Davis.

In the second set, Josannah Vazquez opened the rally with two kills against the Seahawks. Sophomore middle blocker Valeria Payan, Sierra Davis and freshman Alysa Wertz finished off the 25-13 set win by scoring one point each.

The Vikings finished the game by taking the third set by storm and commanded the lead early. In total, Tatyana Umi and freshman outside hitter Josannah Vazquez led the team with 10 kills each. Sierra Davis had 23 assists and freshman outside hitter Shelby Cole totaled 10 digs.

The Vikings will play again in their second conference game against the Cerritos College Falcons on Friday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m.
