No. 12 Women's Volleyball Sweeps Cerritos 3-0 in Conference Game

The No. 12 women's volleyball team continued their sixteen-game winning streak against the Cerritos College Falcons on Friday evening in the Hall of Champions. The Vikings celebrated sophomore night with a three-set sweep over the Falcons. Long Beach City College won by the sets of 25-13, 25-9, and 25-12. They are now 17-3 overall and perfect in conference with a 6-0 record.

The Vikings opened the game with the first point from sophomore Austin Edwards. Then the Cerritos' offense picked up and took the lead 6-4. Freshman Sierra Davis tied the game 6-6, followed by a kill from sophomore Tatyana Umi. Edwards and Umi finished the first set with back-to back kills to take the first win.

Davis was the first to score in the second set with her first service ace. Sophomore Andrea Edwards was next on the attack with a kill to command the lead for the Vikings. Freshman Jessica Blakeman totaled four service aces in the second set. Davis finished the set with three kills followed by sophmore Graciela Maldonado sealing the set win with an ace.

The Vikings took the third set by storm and led the Falcons 7-0 with three of those points coming from freshman outside hitter Josannah Vazquez. Davis led the team with four aces, eight kills, 10 digs and 14 assists.  Vasquez also totaled eight kills for the Vikings off of 10 attacks. 

The Vikings will play again in their next conference match on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at El Camino College at 6 p.m.
