Women’s Volleyball Wins Big in Home Quad Tournament

Women's volleyball defeated Palomar College in a 3-0 sweep in their home opener in the Viking Quad Tournament on Friday afternoon in the Hall of Champions. The Vikings won by the set scores of 25-9, 25-18, and 25-21.

The Vikings opened the first set against the Comets with a kill by freshman setter Kaitlyn Peterson. Then sophomore outside hitter Jessica Blakeman scored back to back points to extend the lead for the Vikings. 

Blakeman took the lead for the Vikings with eight kills. Sophomore opposite Sierra Davis was right behind her with six kills, and also totaled 19 assists. Freshman outside hitter Anisa Lopez had the highest kill percentage for the game with a .545 and freshman setter Levila Iosua paved the way with four service aces.

In the second game of the quad tournament, the Vikings brought out the broom again and swept San Diego Mesa 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-14).

Freshman outside hitter Tylie Johnson came out swinging in the second game of the day against San Diego Mesa. Johnson recorded a .667 kill percentage along with her 18 kills and four service aces. Sophomore middle blocker Elsa Woods also brought her "A" game with a .750 kill percentage.

Davis totaled 10 digs against the Olympians along with two block assists. Iosua was the catalyst behind the Vikings offense with 31 assists to aid the team to their second win of the day.

The Vikings will play again at home on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 6 p.m.
