Johnson Takes Down Imperial Valley 3-1

The No. 9 Long Beach City College women's volleyball team defeated Imperial Valley College 3-1 on Friday evening in the Building Q Gym. With the win, the Vikings advance to 20-3 overall.

The Vikings took the first set 25-18. Sophomore middle blocker Elsa Woods was the first Viking to get on the scoreboard with a kill and had sophomore setter Sierra Davis was behind the assist. Davis totaled 40 assists for the match, a second game-high record for the season.

Freshman outside hitter Tylie Johnson opened the second set with a kill from Davis. Then freshman setter Kaitlyn Peterson smashed back-to-back kills. The Vikings walked away with the 25-18 set win with the last kill against Imperial Valley being from freshman Anisa Lopez.

The Vikings dropped the third set 25-22, but then bounced back for the fourth and final set.

Johnson was on fire as she hit eight kills in the fourth set and held a .381 hitting percentage during the game and totaled 18 kills, seven digs, and three blocks. Johnson also hit one last service ace in the final set to seal the Vikings 25-9 set win.

The Vikings will return to conference action against El Camino College on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. in the Hall of Champions.
