Volleyball Crowned SCC Co-Conference Champions for the Second Consecutive Year

The No. 9 women's volleyball team upset the No. 5 El Camino Warriors in a five-set South Coast Conference show-down in the Hall of Champions on Tuesday evening. The Vikings took down the Warriors in five sets (25-17, 20-25, 25-21, 19-25, 15-12) to be named the South Coast Conference South Division Conference Champions. With the win, the Vikings advance to 21-3 overall and 7-1 in conference play.

In the first set, the Warriors were first on the board, but the Vikings were quick to rise above. Sophomore opposite Sierra Davis made the first kill for the Vikings with the assist from freshman setter Levila Iosua. Davis shined behind the ball as she led the team with 21 kills off of 48 attacks. For the season, she totals 167 kills with 38 in conference. Iosua hit a second career-high record with 54 assists during the game against the Warriors. Iosua also the conference leader with averaging 9.07 assists per set.

The Vikings dropped the second set, but it wasn't enough to hold them down. Long Beach started to fall in the third set but then freshman outside hitter Tylie Johnson hit back-to-back kills to take the lead over El Camino. Johnson was unstoppable against the Warriors with nailing 20 total kills and also hit three service aces against the Warriors. Johnson currently sits second conference leaderboard with a total of 250 kills.

Long Beach fell in the fourth set, but then took back the game and defeated El Camino in the fifth set 15-12 to split the South Coast Conference Championship for the second-consecutive year.
