No. 4 Vikings Defeat Grossmont 3-1, Set to Host Cypress on Saturday

The No. 4 Long Beach City College women's volleyball team took down the No. 13 Grossmont College Griffins in a four-set show-down on Tuesday evening in round one of the California Community College Athletics Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional Playoffs. With the eighth-consecutive win, the Vikings advance their record to 22-3.

The Griffins showed up ready to play as they took the first set against the Vikings 25-23. The Vikings regained their strengths in the second set 25-12 win and tied the game 1-1.

Freshman middle blocker Abigail Hargrove was on her mark throughout the game as she led the Vikings with a .667 kill percentage. Sophomore outside hitter Jessica Blakeman nailed 17 kills and sophomore opposite Sierra Davis followed closely behind with 14 kills. Freshman setter Levila Iosua continued her efforts with 41 assists and had one service ace to help take down the Griffins.

The Vikings won the third set 25-18 and then finished the final set with a 25-12 win to advance in to round two of the CCCAA SoCal Regionals.

The No.4 Vikings are now set to host No. 5 Cypress College Chargers on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 6 p.m. in the Hall of Champions. The Chargers hosted in round one and defeated the No. 12 San Diego City College 3-0.

The winner of round two of the SoCal Regionals will advance to the State Championships at Solano College.
