Long Beach Falls to El Camino in Four-Set Thriller

The No. 12 Long Beach City College Vikings fell to the No. 10 El Camino College Warriors 3-1 on Wednesday evening in the Building Q Gym. With their first conference loss, the Vikings drop to 6-1 in conference play and 11-6 overall.

The Warriors came out strong as they took the first set 25-23. The Vikings rallied in the second set with a 26-24 win, but then fell in the third set 25-23. In the fourth and final set, the Warriors took over as they finished the match with the 25-20 win.

Sophomore outside hitter Brooke Earkman led the Vikings and set a season-high record with 21 kills against the Warriors. She also hit three service aces and had 21 digs for the Vikings. Freshman outside hitter Callissa Candalot laid down the hammer each time she touched the ball and totaled 11 kills for Long Beach.

Freshman setter Jillian Petnicki also hit a season-high record of 50 assists and had four service aces against the Warriors.

The No. 10 Long Beach City College Vikings will return to action on Friday, Oct. 18 at Mt. San Antonio College at 6 p.m.
