Misty May-Treanor enters her fourth year as the head coach for the indoor women's volleyball team and women's beach volleyball team in the 2019-20 season.

In the 2018-19 season, May-Treanor led her team to a 22-4 overall record and a 7-1 conference record earning first place in conference play.

Long Beach City College has named Olympic gold-medalist Misty May-Treanor as the Director of Volleyball Operations.

May-Treanor will oversee the LBCC men's and women's volleyball program and serve as head coach for the indoor women's volleyball team and the newly created women's beach volleyball team. LBCC is set to launch beach volleyball in the 2016-17 school year.

"We are thrilled to have an athlete of Misty's caliber lead our volleyball program," LBCC President Eloy Ortiz Oakley said. "She is an icon in her sport and a longtime Long Beach resident with deep roots in our community. She will serve as an inspiration to our students and a strong leader in our athletics department."

"I'm excited to join the LBCC family," May-Treanor said. "My family lives in Long Beach and I want to help the next generation of players in my community. I'm very excited to help the players at LBCC and advance the volleyball program."

In her career May-Treanor has excelled in both indoor and beach volleyball.

She is the most decorated athlete in beach volleyball history, earning three gold medals for beach volleyball at the Olympics Games (2004, 2008, 2012) as well as three gold (2003, 2005, 2007) and one silver (2011) medal at the Beach Volleyball World Championships.

As an indoor volleyball champion, she won one bronze medal at the Pan American Games in 1999, one NCAA Division 1 Championship at Cal State Long Beach in 1998 and two California State Championships at Newport Harbor High School (1991-1995).

With the pending launch of a new beach volleyball program, the timing of May-Treanor's hiring is ideal, said LBCC Athletics Director Randy Totorp.

"Having excelled at the highest levels of the sport, Misty knows what it takes to build a championship-level team," Totorp said. "She brings a great perspective and experience that will help strengthen our entire program."

She graduated from CSULB, where she received a BA in kinesiology/fitness. There she also received the Honda-Broderick Award for the nation's collegiate female athlete of the year, and she was inducted into the Long Beach State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2004.

May-Treanor also earned a master's degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University Irvine. Previously, she has served as a member of the women's volleyball coaching staff at Irvine Valley College.

A Southern California native, May-Treanor lives in Long Beach, CA with her husband, Major League Baseball catcher Matt Treanor, and their daughters.
