Johnson's MVP, Oeding's Coach of the Year Highlights LBCC Women's Water Polo's All-Conference Nods

Following a season in which the Long Beach City College women's water polo team hauled in their second consecutive South Coast Conference (SCC) title, it was recently announced that six players were named to the All-SCC teams. In addition Head Coach Chris Oeding was named the SCC Coach of the Year following an undefeated conference showing. Freshman attacker Victoria Johnson (Long Beach, CA) was named the SCC Most Valuable Player, while freshman attacker Sydney Kohlenberger (Santa Ana, CA), freshman attacker Samantha Wooley (Schaumburg, IL), and sophomore center Burdette Forsch (Yorba Linda, CA) earned First-Team All-Conference recognition. Furthermore, freshman attacker Lindsey Mizrahi (Cypress, CA) and sophomore attacker Natalie Nilan (Downey, CA) earned Second-Team All-Conference accolades.

Oeding adds to his cherished career by hauling in his sixth Coach of the Year award following a season where he led the Vikings to an undefeated conference record. Furthermore, Oeding led the squad to a SCC Championship title while coaching seven players to All-Conference recognition. Oeding led a young squad that featured all but two freshman to maintain a consistency of dominance in the SCC and CCCAA as a whole.

Johnson earns MVP honors during her inaugural season as a Viking after posting monster numbers on offense. In 29 games played, she fired home 110 goals which ranks third in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) to go along with 33 assists. Johnson fired home a goal in every contest she participated in which included two eight-score games highlighted by a 12-10 win over Fullerton. Johnson was always on her game by scoring five or more goals in eight games. She was dynamic on the defensive front as well by pocketing a team-leading 51 steals. Johnson recorded six steals on two separate occasions.

Kohlenberger earned First-Team laurels after having a strong opening season for the Black and Red. In 28 games played, she hummed home 34 goals and dished out 18 assists to equal 52 points on the season. Kohlenberger ended the season on a four-game scoring streak that included a three-goal outburst in an 18-3 win against Chaffey. On two separate occasions she fired home four scores in one game all leading to victories.

Wooley was a force to be reckoned with in her first season for Long Beach by reeling in First-Team honors. Wooley ranked second for the Vikings in goals scored after finishing the season with 54. She was an all-around offensive threat by dishing out 24 assists as well. She scored in every game but five which included two games that featured five scores and two contests that featured four goals. Furthermore, she was solid on the defensive end of the pool by pocketing 36 steals.

Forsch caps off her LBCC career by hauling in First-Team recognition after a great season. She came on very strong in the latter part of the season by ending on a 10-game scoring streak to finish the season with a total of 52 netters ranking third on the squad. She recorded a season-high five goals in a 12-5 victory over Chaffey. In addition, she facilitated on 29 scores and pocketed 20 steals.

Mizrahi performed well in her first season with the Vikings by earning a Second-Team nod. She strung together a well-rounded season that featured multiple strengths highlighted by 37 goals. Mizrahi scored two or more goals in 11 games that featured two four-score outputs – one leading to a 22-7 victory over East Los Angeles. Furthermore, she dished out 27 assists and pocketed 23 steals.

Nilan rounds out the Viking honors by being tabbed a Second-Team honoree in her final season for Long Beach. Nilan had a knack for setting up the score as she recorded a team-high 34 assists on the year. She dished out two or more assists in 10 games that featured a five-assist game in a 22-7 win over East Los Angeles. She chipped in 32 goals on the season as well.
